Genital warts are a common condition which affects both men and women after sexual contact all over the world. Genital warts affect men and women slightly different as each sex has different organs involved in the sexual reproduction process which would be the main target of genital warts. This article will help give genital warts information for men.

What are genital warts?

Genital warts, which are also classified under the names papillomavirus and HPV are the leading most common STI (STI meaning sexually transmitted infection) found in men and women in America. In men the condition may cause warts to form on and around the skin of the penis while also infecting areas such as the mouth, throat, and anal skin or cavity.

Genital warts although may play a part in much more serious conditions is not necessarily commonly serious itself. Most strands of HPV actually normally go unnoticed and commonly the body sorts out the virus on its own over a period of time averaging less than 2 years.

What are the symptoms of genital warts in men?

Warts are small growths which usually are the same color as the skin and may grow around or on the thighs, penis, testicles, anus, or the groin. These growths may be small and round to a cauliflower shape. Initially these warts can occur quickly or long after the initial sexual contact which transmitted the condition which means it is possible to contract genital warts to other partners after being infected without knowing that you are infected yourself.

Can genital warts in men cause cancer?

The warts themselves which occur in genital warts are non-cancerous, but can in fact contribute to different forms of cancers in the infected areas long after the genital warts initially passed.

Some forms of cancer which can be infected in men after genital warts consist of; penile cancer, anal cancers, along with mouth and throat cancers.

Traditionally mouth and throat cancers are more likely to be caused by habits such as smoking or chewing, but the likelihood of this occurring is more likely in individuals who have or have had genital warts from performing oral sex on an infected partner.

The chances of getting cancer are extremely low in men who have had genital warts but being cancers can remain unnoticed and deadly men should still get regularly checked just in case a silent cancer could be in process.
